 Zillpower: Secrets of Strong Zillwork

The experience of playing zills with Jenna in the lead is like having dessert!

Dancing with Zills: Playing Patterns while Dancing

The experience surpassed my expectations! The thing I noticed most was the energy of the class. The energy you set up made a comfortable setting in which I was able to relax, learn, and enjoy.

You've given me a taste of the possibilities of zills, a solid basis for zill practice at home, and the joy of dancing with zills.  I thank you for freeing my mind to love my zills. I can't wait to practice.

Music in Motion: Rhythms for Dancers

Excellent methodology for learning how to work up to using zills as a musical accompaniment instead of a musical hazard. Breaks the learning of rhythm down into managable add-ons.

- Rebecca Arnold, Colorado Springs, CO

Very thorough instruction. You moved at the pace of all students, and at their levels. You are a patient and kind instructor. I know this workshop will help me be a better instructor. I am already thinking of ways to incorporate these ideas in classes, and am re-thinking choreography for students, and approaches to teaching. Besides, the workshop was personally helpful, and I know that what I learned will improve my skills as a dancer!

Finally, a zills workshop that makes sense. I like the way you broke it down step by step, so even a person with no musical background can grasp the information.

Dancing with Zills: Coordinating Dance with Zills & Rhythm

The most helpful and practical zill class I've ever been to. I learned more from Jenna in the 2-hour workshop than the whole previous year of classes combined! She made me actually believe I can play the zills! The way Jenna explained the rhythms made it all make sense! Plus it was a blast!

- Julie Morgan, Colorado Springs, CO

This class helped me want to practice, instead of just looking at my zills in fear.
                                 - Jana Buist, Colorado Springs, CO

I learned some basic behavior patterns that will help me improve. I really felt you gave me permission to work at my skill level, and at the same time challenged me so I didn't get bored. I will also practice the skills you gave me to help me learn new steps or a routine. This workshop was very, very helpful.

Semi-Private Session

All of our dance collective is very shy about the zills. We all want to play them well and move with them, too. However, we've all been thrown in the deep end over and over again, so we tend to feel as if we aren't good at playing them.
The other night, we screwed up our courage and lovingly placed our zills on our fingers and checked their position to make sure we would best serve ourselves and our zills. Then we picked a slow beat count and moved our hips...Right...Left...Right...Left... Then we started to strike our zills low, in time with our hips, slow and easy with lovely open ringing sounds. We moved naturally into a slow 3/4 shimmy and let our zills follow our hips' lead. And there we were: zilling and shimmying and glowing and smiling and grinning and feeling it and thrilling in the glory! The best part was the Tibetan Bell thrum our zills voiced because we were all playing together with energy, spirit and joy. Two gals who had never had success with the zills were soooo thrilled! We all felt very happy and pleased when we were done. And so we begin... Thank you for your time here in Austin!

Dancing with Zills: Building Coordination

It was not what I expected at all. I was very impressed with the dynamics of the classes. I enjoyed the group interaction. What I enjoyed most was that I was not aware of what I was learning, and realized it in the end. Your workshops made me realize I am playing with an instrument, not a prop! I would love to soak up what wisdom you have!

I have mostly done group zill dances, and have not ventured much with dancing with them on my own, but after your workshop I think I will check it out.

— Charmin Heimel, Colorado Springs, CO

Group Zillpower

It was cool to concentrate on the sound, rhythm and energy, and wonderful to be a part of the energy this workshop gives.

Finding the Edge in Your Zillwork

I have taken other zill classes, but I feel like I learned the most in your class. I think your method is really good!

— Eva Zmatlikova, Ft. Collins, CO

This workshop was possible even as a very beginner. I got more out of it than I expected, including more understanding of the basics, and a lot more to build and practice.

Finger Cymbals for Everyone

Before this workshop I felt tense because of events in my life. By the end of the workshop I was at least ten times more relaxed than before.

— Diane Woodard, Denver, CO

Zillpower

Learning different techniques and focusing on different zill areas has helped my concentration. Making it fun was worth the workshop!

— Cathy Clark, Colorado Springs, CO

I learned a lot, and I imagine that even though there were a lot of different ability levels in the group, it was helpful to everyone. I feel this was true because the emphasis was on how to approach playing, dancing and learning, instead of only on doing specific skills.
